Sparkling wine is ingrained in New Year celebrations for most Russians. This demonstrates not only cultural customs, but also the demand for high-quality and affordable products made in Russia. This is reported in a study by Rosselkhozbank, which was reviewed by Izvestia on December 16.

According to the research of analysts, sparkling wine continues to take the lead among drinks for holidays: it is chosen by 88% of respondents. Quiet wines are preferred by 62% of respondents, while strong alcoholic products such as cognac, vodka and rum are relatively less popular: they are chosen by only 27%.

"Sparkling wine has become an essential attribute of the New Year's feast for most Russians. This reflects not only cultural traditions, but also interest in affordable and high-quality Russian-made products. For producers, this is a signal of the importance of developing the range of sparkling wines, especially in the conditions of growing demand," explained Ekaterina Vinokurova, chief expert on beverages at the RSHB Center for Industry Expertise.

Specialists noted that from the beginning of 2024 until September 1, there has been a significant growth in sparkling wine sales in major Russian cities. In Volgograd the sales volumes increased by 68%, in Voronezh - by 50%, in Kazan - by 49%, and in Krasnodar - by 44%. These data indicate serious changes in consumer preferences and an increase in seasonal demand. Given that the New Year is approaching, additional growth of 10-15% is forecast.

The 2024 project analyzed over 750 wines, including 194 white still wines, 275 red still wines and 108 sparkling wines. In addition, fortified, rosé and organic wines were included in the study, providing a complete picture of the current state of the Russian wine market. Among the 108 types of domestic sparkling wines, 33 brands are presented, of which 57 were produced by classical technology, and 51 - acratophorous method, experts explained.

Earlier, on November 22, Tatyana Yastrebova, head of wine purchasing at METRO, told Izvestia that retail chains had increased their stocks of champagne before the New Year by up to 35%. According to her, purchasing activity has already increased in the segment of sparkling wines and champagne. Drinks in the price range from Br700 to Br1.5 thousand are in the greatest demand.
