The atmosphere of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris this year was far from festive, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on December 16. The head of state noted that the principle of a fair fight was absent during these competitions.

"The very atmosphere of the Paris Paralympics - as well as the Olympics, we must admit it - was very far from a real celebration of sport, from its defining values - equality, friendship, mutual respect for cultures and traditions, fair sports competition," - said the Russian leader at the ceremony of presenting state awards to members of the Russian Paralympic team.

Putin noted that Paralympians from the Russian Federation, who won a large number of awards in France, proved their leadership positions "despite unfair politicized bans."

"Even in this format, far from being in full strength, you were able to prove the leadership position of domestic sport, entered the ten strongest Paralympic teams of the planet. <...> We will always do everything necessary to ensure that our Paralympians can continue their favorite cause and delight all fans with new achievements," - summed up the President.

Earlier, on September 8, it became known that Russian athletes won 64 medals at the Paralympic Games 2024 in Paris, with 20 of them of the highest, gold medals. In the Paralympic Games, which were held in Paris from August 28 to September 8, took part 90 Russian athletes. The athletes competed under a neutral flag.

One of the medalists, Russian Sergey Revenko, won the Paralympic gold medal in the javelin throw on September 6, setting a personal record. In the best of six attempts, the athlete threw 30.77 meters. The competition was held in the F54 category - athletes threw the javelin sitting down. Revenko called participation in the Paralympic Games a dream of his life. On September 7, he was congratulated on his victory by the Russian president.
