Experts have named the risks of insurance repair with used spare parts

Insurance repair of cars with used parts will lead to deterioration of repair quality, increase in the number of accidents, claims from car owners, as well as theft of cars "for dismantling". This opinion was shared with "Izvestia" on December 16 by specialists of Alfa Leasing Group of Companies.

Thus, in the current market situation with the shortage of spare parts and their rising prices, the initiative looks logical, but the idea to repair used parts without the consent of the car owner will have a negative impact on the insured, the company said. Now Russians have a choice: quick repair with used parts, repair with new parts and receive monetary compensation.

The quality of second-hand parts, even with a low level of wear and tear, is lower than new ones at least in terms of remaining life and the absence of hidden defects. There is no clarity on the warranty for repairs carried out using such spare parts. In the future, it is necessary to define technical standards by which the condition and reusability of used spare parts will be assessed and methods of quality control of repairs using such parts. Especially in the context of spare parts that ensure the safety of car operation, experts emphasized.

At the same time, the organization of repairs using remanufactured parts can be an effective alternative to the initiative of using second-hand parts, since during their manufacture both broken and simply worn-out elements of the unit are replaced, the company believes.

"This innovation requires detailed elaboration, as the consequences for car owners can be very serious. For example, there is a high probability of an increase in accidents on the roads due to poor quality repairs and worn parts, deterioration of the technical condition of the vehicles in use. We should not forget about the possible increase in theft of cars for dismantling for spare parts", - said the head of the department of development of additional products of GC "Alfa-Leasing" Maxim Davidenko.
