With the onset of cold weather every year, tanning enthusiasts come to the tanning salons. Some are eager to preserve the tanned skin color obtained during the summer months, others intend to get a little brown for the New Year, and others are convinced that visiting tanning salons has a positive effect on health. Alexandra Filyova, an expert doctor at Gemotest Laboratory, told Izvestia about contraindications to visiting a solarium.

"The radiation produced by the lamps in a tanning bed is generally much more active than the sun's rays, and can much more quickly lead to eye diseases, photoaging and even skin cancer. It's no coincidence that researchers at the International Agency for Research on Cancer included artificial tanning sessions in the list of oncogenic (i.e. cancer-causing) factors," Filyova explained.

According to her, natural tanning can also cause vision problems, photo aging and skin cancer if you stay in the sun too long, especially during its most active hours (from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.), do not wear hats and sunglasses, and do not use creams with high SPF.

In addition, artificial tanning sessions are strictly contraindicated for children, adolescents under 18, pregnant women, people with cardiovascular or malignant diseases, high blood pressure, allergies to the sun. Only after consultation with a dermatologist to visit the solarium can light-skinned people who have a large number of freckles or moles on the skin, said the doctor.

"The first session of artificial tanning should last no more than a couple of minutes. During the procedure - use special glasses and breast stickers. After the procedure - apply moisturizing cream or milk to the body, drink clean water," - summed up the expert.

In May, neurologist Pavel Khoroshev told Izvestia about the dangers of tanning. According to him, ultraviolet rays penetrate deep into the skin and not only damage DNA, which leads to cancer, but the skin starts aging faster and becomes flabby.
