New year - new games: what to launch in 2025

The year is coming to an end, and gamers all over the world are used to making checklists of what novelties are worth paying attention to in 2025. At the recent PC Gaming Show, a list of several dozen projects was named. Read about the main expectations of players in the Izvestia article.

Civilization VII

When will be released: February 11, 2025

Civilization VII continues the traditions of the cult series of turn-based strategies. Users will be able to plunge into three time periods: Antiquity, Age of Exploration and Modernity, each of which provides its own mechanics. Innovations will be the ability to combine units, the system of leaders with unique abilities and the influence of eras on strategic decisions. The game will get fresh visuals, and the map in terms of detail will be the heir to the best elements of the previous parts.

DOOM: The Dark Ages

When it will be released: presumably in the second half of 2025.

A new installment in the epic first-person shooter that has made video game history. DOOM: The Dark Ages will tell the backstory of Executioner Rock, which took place long before the main series. The hero will again have to fight the infernal hordes, only now in the lore of the Middle Ages. Developers are preparing new unusual weapons (for example, sword shield), cannons, flights on cyberdragon and a lot of other gameplay surprises.

Monster Hunter Wilds

When it will be released: February 28, 2025

Another large-scale adventure in the most popular fantasy RPG action series from Capcom Studios. Monster hunters will travel to a new region called Forbidden Lands, full of unknown monsters. As always, players will have to hunt down the monsters, developing cunning strategies. The novelty is notable for the fact that this is the first unique game of the series in a long time, not a re-release or add-on.

Slay the Spire 2

When it will be released: 2025

The return of the iconic card-based roguelike. After 1000 game years, gamers will once again have to conquer the Spire and meet friends and enemies on their way to the top. The game is completely rewritten on a new engine, there will be more features and opportunities to create mods.

Grand Theft Auto VI

When will be released: 2025

The action of GTA VI will unfold in the fictional state of Leonidas. The novelty will focus on the adventures of two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, leading illegal trade and participating in robberies. The heist system will become more complex thanks to the addition of dialogs and interactions with NPCs, and movement and animation will be more realistic. Rockstar promises a huge game world full of details, diverse locations and transportation.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

When it comes out: 2025

Sam Porter Bridges will return with a mission to revitalize humanity and strengthen ties beyond UCA. Game designer and screenwriter Hideo Kojima is working on an even deeper and more emotional story featuring new characters, whose roles will traditionally be played by star actors, including Elle Fanning. Gameplay will continue to develop the ideas of the first part: traveling through dangerous landscapes, interacting with a vast network of players and exploring the mysterious world.

Thanks to the new engine visual effects will be pumped up, there will be more realistic forests, nature, detailed villages. Combat mechanics will include crossbow shooting and knight duels.

A first-person RPG being developed by Obsidian Entertainment. The action will take place in the world of Eora from the Pillars of Eternity game universe. The plot will focus on the epic struggle with ancient evil, users are waiting for fantasy lore, filled with magic and politics. Gameplay combines the exploration of open areas, dynamic battles and character training with a system of skills. The player will be able to take companions to fulfill quests. Companions also influence the plot and the final outcome.

Wanderstop is a meditative narrative game in which you will try on the role of former warrior Alta, who has retired and runs a tea shop in a magical forest. At first glance her labor seems calm, but for the girl it is a real struggle, because she misses the battlefield. Gameplay will not only brew tea, communicate with visitors and decorate her store, but also explore the inner conflicts of the heroine and the theme of healing through routine activities.

A sci-fi action game about the aftermath of a disaster in a future world torn by wars over remaining resources. Here in the 1960s, the Windscale nuclear accident has turned much of Northern England into a radioactive quarantine zone. Gameplay involves battling with futuristic weapons and exploring a post-apocalyptic world. The plot revolves around the protagonist's attempts to restore balance and prevent the final collapse of civilization.

Control 2

When it will be released: 2025

Remedy studio continues to expand its universe. The sci-fi paranormal action game from the creators of Max Payne, Quantum Break and Alan Wake was one of the best games at the time of its release, and the second installment has fans waiting with great anticipation. The developer has yet to reveal details about the story and gameplay changes, but work is underway, and there's a chance that details about the project will appear in 2025, and the game itself will be released towards the end of next year.
