In Russia, the Interior Ministry has recorded 708 cases of registration of maternity capital and social payments for children who were not born. This was reported on December 16 by the head of the main department of economic security and anti-corruption of the Interior Ministry, police lieutenant general Andrei Kurnosenko.

"To date, 229 criminal cases have been initiated. 217 persons have been brought to criminal responsibility," TASS quoted Kurnosenko as saying.

According to him, the offenders submitted statements to the MFC that they witnessed the birth of children outside of maternity hospitals. To the application the intruders attached passports and a handwritten statement of a fictitious woman in labor without supporting documents on the fact of child birth.

According to preliminary data, the damage from the embezzlement amounted to at least Br1 billion.

Earlier, November 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on the budget of the Pension and Social Insurance Fund for 2025-2027, according to which the maternity capital will be indexed by 7.3%. The indexation will take place from February 1, 2025.
