The Interior Ministry reported the embezzlement of more than 600 million rubles by the former deputy head of the Defense Ministry department

The former deputy director of the Defense Ministry's Military Property Department is involved in embezzlement of 600 million rubles allocated for an infrastructure project. This was reported on Monday, December 16, by Andrei Kurnosenko, head of the main department of economic security and anti-corruption (GUEBiPK) of the Russian Interior Ministry.

"Together with the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), the embezzlement of more than 600 million rubles allocated for the implementation of a special infrastructure project committed by the deputy director of the Russian Defense Ministry's military property department has been documented," he told TASS.

According to Kurnosenko, along with the official, the heads of a number of commercial organizations are also involved in this crime.

Moscow 's Basmanny court arrested Vladimir Shishov, deputy head of the Russian Defense Ministry's military property department, and businessman Dmitry Levchenko in October 2023. Shishov is an actual state councilor of the Russian Federation of the third class, before his position in the Defense Ministry he served as deputy head of the Federal Forestry Agency.

Prior to that, on November 13, former head of division of the Russian Defense Ministry's department for ensuring the state defense order Yevgeny Makeyev was sentenced by the court to four years of probation in the case of large-scale bribery in the performance of the state defense order. The defendant was found guilty under paragraph "c", part 5, article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

It was established that in 2020 the head of the department of the Defense Ministry Vladimir Verteletsky and his subordinate Makeev received a bribe from the director of the Cheboksary plant "Metallist" Sergey Chervyakov in the amount of more than 1.8 million rubles for the acceptance of work of inadequate quality. The crime caused damage to the state in the amount of more than Br73 million. May 23, Verteletsky was charged with abuse of power in the implementation of the state defense order. He is under arrest and continues to familiarize himself with the case materials.
