The AFU General Staff named the Kurakhov direction as one of the hottest ones
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) has described the Kurakhov area in the Donetsk people's republic as one of the hottest on the entire front line. The agency reports about it on December 15 in its Telegram channel.
"The Kurakhovskoye direction remains one of the hottest on the entire frontline," the publication reads.
The message says that the command "takes all necessary decisions taking into account the complexity of the situation" and conducts counter-sabotage activities. In addition, the General Staff reported the advantage of the Russian army in equipment and personnel.
Earlier in the day, a group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) of 700 people, which includes a special forces detachment, was completely surrounded by the Russian Armed Forces south of Kurakhovo in the DNR. About 700 people, including a special forces detachment, were caught in the encirclement.
On December 14, units of the Southern Group of Forces successfully repelled two counterattacks by Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) assault groups. According to Vadim Astafiev, head of the press center of the troop grouping, as a result of active actions the AFU took a more advantageous position and defeated formations of four mechanized, airmobile brigades and two territorial defense brigades in the areas of Ulakly, Grigorovka, Seversk, Vasyukovka, Chasov Yar, Dachne, Kurakhovo, Annivka and Uspenovka.
On December 7, fighters of the Center and South groups of forces told Izvestia how the offensive against the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) near Kurakhovo was progressing.
Earlier, on December 4, advisor to the head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Igor Kimakovsky said that the AFU had taken a large section of the Zaporozhye-Kurakhovo highway under fire control. According to Kimakovsky, the southern direction is working from the northern bank of the Kurakhovo reservoir in order to displace the AFU fighters.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
