The head of the DNR fire department told about the rescue of a pregnant woman in Horlivka

The head of the fire and rescue unit of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR), Vitaliy Mikhnenko, told on Sunday, December 15, how he and his subordinates saved a pregnant woman from a fire in 2014.

Mikhnenko shared the story that at that time there were only 15 people left in his unit. And from the officer staff he was the only one. But that didn't change anything and the firefighters continued to do their duty despite the increased risks.

"We went out after shelling to a fire, several houses were burning, there were many wounded. We took the injured out of the settlement on a fire truck, among them was an injured pregnant woman," Mikhnenko was quoted by the department's Telegram channel as saying.

He added that this family later came to the unit already with a newborn to thank for the rescue

Mikhnenko also shared that once, while extinguishing the roof of a two-story apartment building, they were spotted by a Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) spy drone, which led two combat drones behind them.

Then Mikhnenko, as a senior commander, sheltered the personnel, while he himself stayed on the roof with another officer. The enemy drones did not hit them, and after the shelling they continued working together.

For his exploits, the head of the fire and rescue unit was awarded various departmental and state awards.

Earlier, on December 9, in Stavropol firefighters rescued seven people while extinguishing a fire in a residential house. It was specified that the fire occurred on Yunosti Avenue. It was established burning of the kitchen in one of the apartments, preliminary on the area of 10 square meters. m. It was also reported that 36 people and eight units of equipment were involved in extinguishing. By the present moment the fire has been liquidated.
