Some 8,000 pregnant women in Gaza have been forced to go hungry

About 8,000 pregnant women in the Gaza Strip are facing starvation, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) told Izvestia.
"Pregnant women in Gaza face significant difficulties in accessing safe delivery, prenatal and postnatal care. Ongoing conflict and attacks on hospitals have severely damaged health infrastructure. About 4,000 women in Gaza are expected to give birth each month. This translates to about 130 births per day," UNFPA noted.
At the same time, the likelihood of miscarriage or death during childbirth has become three times higher than before the military escalation, the foundation said.
"As a result, many women are forced to give birth at home without any medical assistance. Pregnant women are now three times more likely to miscarry or die in childbirth. Reports of premature births and low birth weight babies are increasing, malnutrition makes breastfeeding difficult for young mothers," the UNFPA said.
The UN fund added that at least 345,000 people, including 38,000 adolescent girls, live in hunger in the Gaza Strip.
