The condition of four-time Olympic champion in cross-country skiing in the USSR national team Raisa Smetanina is assessed as stably serious. This was reported by her brother Fyodor Smetanin on December 15.

"She is conscious - opens her eyes, eats, but does not talk, paralyzed the right side - the arm does not work," he told TASS.

According to him, doctors are making every effort, but recovery may take a long time.

On the same day, Ruslan Semenyuk, president of the Komi Republic Ski Racing Federation, said that Smetanina was in intensive care and was hooked up to a ventilator.

Earlier, on December 14, a representative of the Komi Republic Ski Racing Federation, Konstantin Sobyanin, said that about a week ago, the skier had a stroke and went into intensive care. Sobyanin then pointed out that the champion is conscious, but doctors do not predict how her condition will change further.

Raisa Smetanina won ten Olympic medals during her performances in skiing. Four of them were gold medals. In addition, she has five times occupied the second step of the podium of the Olympic Games and once - the third. In addition, Smetanina has a lot of awards received at the World Championships.
