Ukraine has requested electricity imports from the European Union due to hourly power cuts, the country's Energy Ministry has said on 15 December. This was reported by the country's Energy Ministry on 15 December.

It specified that since December 1, the maximum capacity of electricity imports from the EU countries is 2.1 GW.

"For the current day (December 15. - Ed.) imports with a total volume of 20.8 thousand MWh and a capacity of 1.1 thousand MW are forecasted," the ministry said in its Telegram channel.

In the Ministry emphasized that energy officials are working to eliminate the consequences. In addition, the agency urged Ukrainian business to actively import electricity, and consumers to its rational use.

Earlier, on December 13, Ukraine after the massive strike of the Russian Federation on the energy infrastructure requested imports of electricity from five neighboring countries. Then it was reported that imports would be made in the volume of 13.4 thousand MW per hour, with the maximum capacity in some hours up to 1.09 thousand MW.

Prior to that, on November 24, The Times reported that Ukraine was facing "deadly frosts" due to the insecurity of the energy system. It was noted that back in late February, British engineers together with teams from America, Germany and Japan advised Kiev to build structures to protect the energy system. However, the Ukrainian government headed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose term of office expired on May 20, did not do so.

On November 17, the Ukrainian energy holding company DTEK reported that thermal power plants in several regions of Ukraine were seriously damaged. The head of the country's Energy Ministry, German Galushchenko, said that Ukraine was introducing a regime of emergency power cuts.

On November 11, The Wall Street Journal reported that an acute shortage of electricity in Ukraine in winter could turn the country's cities into places with uninhabitable conditions. The publication called the inability to generate the required amount of energy a serious challenge for the Kiev regime.
