The Southern Transport Prosecutor's Office has organized an inspection into the crash of two tankers in the Kerch Strait. This agency reported on December 15 in its Telegram-channel.

"A rescue operation is being carried out. On behalf of the Southern transport Prosecutor Sergey Safinov Novorossiysk transport Prosecutor's office is conducting an inspection of the implementation of legislation in the field of safety of navigation", - stated in the message of the Prosecutor's office.

It added that the results of the inspection will determine the necessary response to the incident.

Tanker "Volgoneft-212" suffered a disaster in the Kerch Strait earlier in the day due to bad weather. The signal about it in the morning came to the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol. In the area where the vessel is located, there are strong squally winds and sea excitement up to 7 points. The tanker was damaged, a helicopter Mi-8 of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia with rescuers on board flew out to help.

Footage was published in the Network, which allegedly depicted the tanker Volgoneft-212. In the video taken by an eyewitness, the vessel broke into two parts. The footage, which was taken on the tanker itself, shows the broken off bow of the vessel sticking out of the water. The stern is still afloat, with high waves lapping over its side.

Later, the republican Emergencies Ministry reported that the second tanker Volgoneft-239 was damaged in the Kerch Sea. On its board there are 14 crew members and oil products. The Crimean Emergencies Ministry added that more than 500 people and 11 units of equipment are working on the elimination of the incident with the two vessels.

Later, the Russian Emergencies Ministry specified that the Volgoneft-212 ran aground, while the tanker Volgoneft-239 went adrift after the damage. According to the Izvestia source, the first vessel was damaged 7 km from the shore and had 5 tons of fuel oil on board. Nine people were rescued from the vessel. The source added that the sailors from the second tanker left it and are waiting for help from rescuers.
