Interregional Pharmaceutical Production and Distribution Corporation "Biotech" (MFPDC "Biotech"), one of the structures of the group of companies of the same name, has filed a bankruptcy petition with the Arbitration Court of Moscow for the daughter of its founder, ex-senator Boris Shpigel Svetlana. There is information about it on December 15 in the court's filing cabinet.

"To take into production the application of the creditor of JSC "MFPDK BIOTEK" <...> on the recognition of citizen-debtor Shpigel Svetlana Borisovna insolvent (bankrupt), received by the court on 26.09.2024", - stated in the definition of the court.

At first, the Arbitration Court left the case without movement, but by November 8, MFPDC "Biotek" eliminated all the circumstances for this, and the case came into development. The trial is scheduled for January 29, 2025. The case file does not indicate what prompted the filing of the application.

Earlier, in January 2024, the court sentenced Shpigel to 11 years in prison for bribing former Penza Region Governor Ivan Belozertsev. Since his arrest in March 2021, Shpigel has been in the hospital at the Matrosskaya Tishina detention center. The entire trial was held there due to the state of health of the defendant. Doctors forbade to transport Shpigel to the court.

As follows from the conclusion of the Scientific Research Institute of Cardiology of June 19, 2023, which is at the disposal of Izvestia, by the time of his arrest, the businessman was already suffering from "loss of mobility, sharp limitation of self-care and inability to cope with his functional needs without assistance." In addition, doctors believe that Shpigel has "an extremely high risk of developing sudden death."

On November 5, Moscow's Preobrazhensky Court released the ex-senator from serving his sentence due to the state of his health. Shpigel's lawyer Zarina Farnieva said at the time that the businessman would be taken to a medical center after his release.

Later, November 20, the prosecutor's office filed a complaint against the ex-senator's release, and on December 10, the court satisfied it, deciding to clarify that Shpigel is released only from imprisonment, the unexecuted term of which is seven years. All other punishments remain in force.
