Newly elected U.S. Republican President Donald Trump said on December 14 that his party will push to abolish daylight saving time in the country.

"The Republican Party will make every effort to abolish daylight saving time, which has a small but strong group of supporters. <...> Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient and very costly to our country," Trump wrote on his social media account X (formerly Twitter).

The Daylight Saving Time Act was passed in the United States in 1966. The exceptions to it were Arizona, Hawaii, the territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Earlier on December 12, the Republican said that after inauguration, he would first deal with the process of pardoning most of the participants in the January 6, 2021 Capitol storming. He also added that he opposes strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine deep into Russia with Western long-range missiles.

The election for the 47th president of the United States was held on November 5. In the national vote, Trump received 51% of the vote, while Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 47.4%. Later, the politician, speaking to supporters, called himself the 47th President of the United States and said that his goal as head of state considers the cessation of military conflicts in the world.
