Rogov reported the encirclement of the AFU group of 700 people near Kurakhovo

A 700-strong group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU), which includes a special forces unit, has been completely encircled by the Russian Armed Forces south of Kurakhovo in the DNR. This was reported to RIA Novosti on December 15 by Vladimir Rogov, chairman of the Russian Public Chamber's commission on sovereignty issues and co-chairman of the coordination council for the integration of new regions.
According to him, the cauldron has closed to AFU fighters near the villages of Uspenovka, Annivka and Vesely Gai. Rogov said that about 700 people, including a special forces detachment, had fallen into the encirclement. He pointed to the lack of organized resistance, the fighters "are trying to get out of the encirclement in scattered groups."
Rogov noted that for the most part the AFU is counterattacking Russian troops west of Uspenovka to create space for the exit of the group trapped in the cauldron.
"At the same time, according to intercepts, the AFU grouping requested commands to retreat and evacuate at least eight times before being completely encircled, but they were refused," Rogov said.
A day earlier, units of the Southern Group of Forces successfully repelled two counterattacks by assault groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). According to the head of the press center of the grouping of troops Vadim Astafiev, as a result of active actions the AFU took a more advantageous position, defeated the formations of four mechanized, airmobile brigades and two brigades of territorial defense in the areas of Ulakly, Grigorovka, Seversk, Vasyukovka, Chasov Yar, Dachne, Kurakhovo, Annivka and Uspenovka.
On December 7, fighters of the Center and South groups of forces told Izvestia how the offensive against the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) near Kurakhovo was progressing.
Earlier, on December 4, advisor to the head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Igor Kimakovsky said that the AFU had taken a large section of the Zaporozhye-Kurakhovo highway under fire control. According to Kimakovsky, the southern direction is working from the northern bank of the Kurakhovo reservoir in order to displace the AFU fighters.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
