Interpol reveals details of case of drug lord extradited from Colombia to Russia


Details of the case of extradited to Russia drug lord Munoz Ramirez Carlos Alberto, known in Russia as Carlos, revealed on December 14 in a conversation with Izvestia. head of the information department of Interpol Colombia Major Ivan Dario Cardona.
According to the head of Interpol, Colombian law enforcers detained the drug lord in 2018. The criminal had been hiding for several years in the municipality of Tulua in the Chiminangos region. It took practically six years to extradite Munoz to Russia.
"Extradition is an administrative procedure that depends on many aspects, so while all these issues related not only to the police, but also to diplomatic agencies, to ministries and to the Attorney General's Office are resolved, the time it takes to realize the extradition passes," Cardona clarified.
He also stated that Munoz was responsible for drug trafficking from Colombia to Moscow. For this he used private planes and intermediaries.
"This person was responsible for delivering drugs from Colombia to Moscow on commercial airplanes. The only thing we know is that he used Russian groups to send drugs, but we don't know anything else," the Interpol chief said.
Earlier, on December 12, Ramirez Munose, accused of smuggling and trafficking in narcotic drugs, was extradited from the Republic of Colombia to Russia accompanied by officers of the NCB Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and FSIN of Russia.
According to preliminary information, in May 2016, the accused, together with accomplices, organized the transportation of cocaine from Colombia to Russia by air. The drug with a total weight of more than 3.2 kg was hidden in two postal items.
Earlier, on December 6, officers of the Federal Security Service and the Federal Customs Service detained members of the Colombian cartel "Cali" with 570 kg of cocaine, which were intended for transportation to the European Union.
