Mayotte was hit by the strongest tropical cyclone in 90 years


The French department of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean was hit by the strongest for 90 years tropical cyclone Shido. This was reported by the meteorological service of France on Saturday, December 14.
According to meteorologists, the storm is accompanied by heavy rainfall and wind gusts of up to 250 km / h.
"We are talking about a cyclone of a magnitude unprecedented for Mayotte in more than 90 years", - said in the message of the meteorological service in X.
According to the AFP news agency, at least two deaths are known in the storm.
As noted by the Minister of Ecology and Energy Agnès Pannier-Runachet, more than 15 thousand households were left without electricity due to the devastating natural disaster.
In June, an outbreak of cholera was registered on Mayotte. It is specified that 21 cases were brought to the island, while the remaining 172 are the result of infection within the region. In addition, two deaths have been recorded. The cholera epidemic began on the archipelago back in late March. As reported by the prefecture of the island, the disease was brought by migrants from the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as from neighboring Comoros.
