Crews of Su-35 multi-purpose super-maneuverable fighters with controlled thrust vectoring of the Russian Air and Space Forces (VKS) performed air cover for crews in the border areas of the Kursk Region. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on December 15.
In the course of combat missions, the crews of SU-35 fighters practiced air cover of bomber and attack aircraft, as well as helicopters of the Army Aviation during air strikes on armored vehicles and personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
After successfully accomplishing their assigned tasks, the crews returned safely to the airfield.
Earlier, on December 14, an Army aviation crew on a Ka-52M helicopter as part of a mixed tactical group carried out an air missile strike on AFU personnel and a stronghold. After the attack, the crew performed anti-missile maneuvering at extremely low altitude with the use of heat traps to prevent missile strikes with man-portable surface-to-air missile systems (MANPADS) from the enemy.
Before that, on December 13, an army aviation crew on a Mi-28 helicopter as part of a mixed tactical group struck AFU personnel, a stronghold and military vehicles with air missiles.
The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
