Media reported on Zelensky's upcoming discussion with EU heads on ending the conflict

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose term of office expired on May 20, will meet with some European representatives in Brussels in the coming week to discuss possible formats for ending the Ukrainian conflict. This was reported by Politico on Saturday, December 14.
According to it, the meeting will be attended by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Polish leader Andrzej Duda, European Council President António Costa, European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
In addition to options for ending the conflict, the politicians will discuss the possibility of introducing European troops to Ukraine as part of a peacekeeping mission.
On December 12, military analyst and political scientist Vadym Mingalev told Izvestiya that Western countries' plans to send their troops to Ukraine were only a political tool to check Russia's reaction.
On the same day, it was reported that the EU countries could not yet reach a consensus on whether European peacekeepers should be sent to Ukraine if Kiev and Moscow reach a cease-fire agreement. In this connection, the possibility of creating a coalition of five to eight countries on this issue is being considered.
Prior to that, on December 1, a demonstration was held in Paris against sending Western troops to Ukraine and in support of halting arms supplies to Kiev.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
