Keir Starmer urged G7 countries to increase pressure on Russia

The leaders of the G7 countries should increase pressure on Russia. This was stated on December 14 by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, whose statement was published by his office following a virtual meeting of G7 leaders.
During the discussion of the Ukrainian issue, Starmer said that Russian President Vladimir Putin allegedly shows no signs of softening his position. Therefore, according to the prime minister, it is necessary to increase support for Ukraine "to ensure that it is in the best possible position in the future." In addition, he called for increased economic pressure on Russia, "including through additional sanctions where possible."
It is specified that the participants of the meeting agreed that the unity of the G7 countries "will be crucial in such unstable times".
The day before, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said that the European Union (EU) lost €1.5 trillion due to sanctions against Russia. According to him, the path chosen by the EU to completely abandon economic cooperation with Russia will lead to the EU's "self-cutting" from the global economy.
At the same time, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the West is obsessed with anti-Russian sanctions, but Russia has adapted to them and continues to follow its course.
Before that, on December 11, Alexei Kanaev, a member of the State Duma Committee on Industry and Trade, said that anti-Russian sanctions primarily harm their initiators. He noted that the new, 15th package of EU sanctions against Russia is political in nature and does not carry significant risks for the Russian economy.
Western countries increased sanctions pressure on Russia after the start of the special operation to protect civilians in Donbass, which was announced on February 24, 2022.
