In the fall, Russians began to buy magnesium more often, which analysts attribute to the seasonal increase in stress and moping. This period accounted for 31% of total sales. Doctors attribute this to the end of the year and the approach of the holidays, when people take stock and face emotional strain.

"Magnesium deficiency can actually lead to mood deterioration, anxiety and depression. The element is involved in the process of synthesizing serotonin, the happy hormone, which is responsible for good mood and feelings of contentment. In addition, magnesium helps to reduce stress and anxiety by increasing the energy capacity of our body, but it should be remembered that for its assimilation requires vitamin B6," - said a doctor in nutritional hygiene, epidemiology, nutriciologist Dmitry Baev in conversation with "Gazeta.Ru".

According to him, magnesium really plays a key role in maintaining physical and emotional health. This element is involved in the nervous system, improves metabolism and promotes the synthesis of serotonin - the hormone of happiness.

To replenish magnesium, Baev recommended increasing the amount of foods in the diet rich in this element: nuts, seeds, greens, bananas, oatmeal and dark chocolate with a cocoa content of 85% or more. In periods of high stress or increased mental activity, you can additionally take magnesium supplements.

However, the nutritionist emphasized that magnesium is not a universal solution. For a comprehensive fight against stress and depression, it is important to seek professional help.

Earlier, on December 1, Polina Lepilova, a neurologist at SberZdorovye medical company, told Izvestia about five non-obvious reasons to consult a neurologist. According to her, the reason to consult a neurologist may be a feeling of anxiety and internal tension, apathy and lower mood. These conditions can be related to a variety of factors, including stress, overwork, depression, anxiety disorders and certain internal organ diseases, such as thyroid disease.

In early October, Ekaterina Demyanovskaya, a neurologist and expert physician at the Gemotest laboratory, named Izvestia products that can help reduce stress. It is important to provide the body with such substances as tryptophan, magnesium, omega-3 and vitamin B9, she warned. As the expert explained, they can be obtained from milk, bananas, fatty fish and eggs.
