The State Duma explained the popularity of Viber among scammers

The State Duma said that the messenger Viber was most often chosen by fraudsters to deceive Russians. This was told to Izvestia on Saturday, December 14, by Anton Nemkin, a member of the Russian State Duma and coordinator of the federal project "Digital Russia".

"The simplicity of registration through a phone number makes Viber a convenient tool for quickly creating new accounts, which allows attackers to easily change profiles and numbers for a new wave of attacks," the deputy said.

In his opinion, the main reason why scammers used Viber more often is the target audience.

Nemkin added that foreign intelligence services can use the messenger to recruit Russians.

The day before, Roskomnadzor restricted access to the messenger Viber on the territory of Russia. This measure was taken due to non-compliance of the company's representatives with the requirements of the Russian legislation.

In March, it became known that the Tagansky court of Moscow fined the messenger Viber for failure to fail to remove banned content. The company was fined 800 thousand rubles.
