Switzerland condemns activist attack on monument in Geneva

Enzo Malorgio, an official representative of the youth wing of the Democratic Union of the Center, the largest party in the Swiss parliament, has condemned the protest by Ukrainian activists of the Femen movement, who damaged the wooden monument "Broken Chair" in front of the United Nations (UN) headquarters with a chainsaw. On December 13, he said on the social network X (former Twitter).
"Your act is an absolute disgrace, a spit in the world and humanity. By mutilating the "Broken Chair", a universal symbol of the fight against anti-personnel mines, you have crossed the line of meanness. This monument represents decades of diplomatic struggle, lives saved, and human dignity. Your chainsaws not only hit the tree, they betrayed your own baseness and the futility of your actions," Malorjo wrote.
According to him, the activists of the movement have no place in Switzerland, Malorgio advised them to leave the country. "Switzerland does not want your wild methods. You are a living insult to any idea of progress and justice," the politician added.
Earlier in the day Reuters reported that two half-naked Ukrainians with chainsaws damaged a monument in front of the UN headquarters in Geneva. It is noted that it required the intervention of the police.
Before that, on November 12, it became known that a pro-Ukrainian activist from Lithuania Valdas Bartkevicius visited the border area of Kursk region and the town of Suja, where he desecrated a Soviet monument. It is noted that the activist had earlier expressed the need for a complete ban on the Russian language and Russian national culture in Lithuania and other European countries.
