Perfume poisoning is extremely dangerous, as it contains a high percentage of alcohol (95-96%), as well as chemicals, including aromatic oils and potentially toxic compounds. Roman Oparin, an associate professor at the Department of General Biology and Bioecology of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the State University of Enlightenment, told Izvestia on December 16 about perfume poisoning.

"When ingested, perfume can cause toxic poisoning, affecting the gastrointestinal tract, liver, kidneys and central nervous system. The main symptoms are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, convulsions, decreased consciousness up to coma. A large dose can cause alcohol intoxication, up to collapse of the cardiovascular system," Oparin notes.

According to him, 30-50 ml of perfume liquid ingested can lead to serious poisoning in an adult. The specific amount can vary depending on the individual characteristics of the body (weight, age, health). Exceeding 100 ml can be fatal for an adult. The main threat is the high concentration of alcohol and toxic substances that harm internal organs. In case of perfume poisoning, it is extremely important to immediately call an ambulance.

In case the perfume got inside, the specialist advises to take activated charcoal (1 tablet for every 10 kg of weight). This helps to reduce the absorption of toxins. It is also important to provide air intake, loosen clothes, put the victim on his side to avoid aspiration of vomit, and try to flush the stomach, offering him to drink a large amount of water.

Earlier, on November 17, obstetrician-gynecologist, reproductologist of NGC clinic Anastasia Bobrova told "Izvestia" about dangerous products for pregnancy. According to her, during pregnancy it is better to avoid dishes with raw fish and seafood. They may contain harmful bacteria, viruses and parasites, such as listeria and salmonella, which cause severe food poisoning.
