Moscow police uncovered a scheme to embezzle more than 65 million rubles allocated for restoration work from budget funds. This was reported on Friday, December 13, by the official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry Irina Volk.

"It is preliminarily established that in July 2022, the attackers concluded a contract with a religious organization for the performance of works on the preservation of the object of cultural heritage. The limited liability company headed by the defendants undertook to organize the reconstruction and restoration of the Bode-Kolychevs' estate in the village of Spasskoye-Lukino," her words are quoted on the portal "MIA Media".

According to the agency, the general contractor concluded fictitious subcontracting agreements with an affiliated organization and other contractors who could not perform such work. The money was transferred to their accounts, cashed and stolen.

A criminal case has been opened under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud"). At the moment two alleged organizers of the scheme - a previously convicted woman and her accomplice - have been arrested and charged. To compensate for the damage, their vehicles were seized from them, as well as their real estate and accounts were seized.

Evidence was collected during searches in their homes and offices. The identities of other participants of the embezzlement are being established.

Earlier, on December 11, the Federal Security Service of Russia suppressed the work of call-centers in Moscow, which deceived tens of thousands of citizens from more than 20 countries under the guise of investment activities. Law enforcement officers detained the managers and a number of employees, as well as seized a large amount of equipment. A criminal case of fraud has been opened.
