Russia has started testing insurance for delivery robots

A pilot project has been launched in the Russian market to insure delivery robots which transport small cargoes, parcels, groceries and deliver food from restaurants. This was reported in T-Insurance.
The company has developed policies that cover, among other things, risks associated with unforeseen circumstances (for example, if the robot is injured due to fire or lightning strike) and breakdowns, which delivery robots "Yandex" may encounter when fulfilling orders. In addition, the insured event will also occur if the device receives mechanical damage, including as a result of "unlawful actions of third parties," the company said.
At the first stage of the "pilot" insured ten robots. The insurance is valid for one year.
General Director of T-Insurance Ivan Mironenko noted that the launch of the pilot project is "the first step to prepare a documentary base for insurance of robots in logistics". "The potential of such a market is quite large - every year various companies are increasingly applying autonomous technologies, especially in logistics," he added.
The insurance company expects that the realization of the pilot project will help to form the necessary basis for the new insurance product.
The insurance market for autonomous transportation has great potential, Evgeny Ufimtsev, president of the All-Russian Union of Insurers, is confident.
"The idea of autonomous delivery vehicles is already becoming widespread in Russia and the world - this is a promising market. The All-Russian Union of Insurers sees in this initiative opportunities for development and development of new directions for insurance," Ufimtsev noted.
