The writer accusing Akunin of plagiarism spoke about the status of the proceedings

Writer Tatyana Vikentyeva will conduct an expert examination on copyright in order to incriminate Boris Akunin (real name - Grigory Chkhartishvili, recognized in Russia as a foreign agent, included in the register of terrorists and extremists) in theft. She told Izvestiya correspondent on December 13.
"I think Boris Akunin should be recognized for what he is. And he is a literary thief. This should be recognized in all countries. This is what I want and what my goal is," she said.
In Tagansky district court on Friday held a regular session on the claim Vikentyeva to Akunin on copyright protection in the amount of 1 million rubles. Initially, the independent expertise was to be paid by the charitable foundation Melnichenko, who soon stopped contacting.
The examination of the books "Azazel" by Akunin and "House of Death" by Vikentyeva was scheduled for December 13 and was to be performed within 20 working days. As a result, the money to pay for the examination was donated by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev.
According to the court filing, the next hearing on the case will be held on December 16.
Previous meetings on this claim Vikentyeva to Akunin were held on September 23, November 6 and 19. The writer insists that Akunin reworked her play "House of Death". According to her, the appeal to the court is connected with the release in 2023 of the second mini-series "Fandorin. Azazel" based on Akunin's novel. The plaintiff demands to prohibit the rental of film works, to recognize her rights to the work, to recover the profits from the rental in her favor and to compensate for moral damage.
The plaintiff has already had a copyright trial for "Cemetery Stories" in 2005 in the Tverskoy District Court. Vikentyeva also mentioned in a conversation with Izvestia that she had received threatening phone calls because of her legal proceedings with Akunin.
In December 2023, a criminal case was opened against Akunin for publicly justifying terrorism and spreading deliberately false information about the Russian Armed Forces. In the following months, the Basmanny court of Moscow arrested him in absentia. The writer was also put on an international wanted list and added to the register of foreign agents.
