- Putin invited the Security Council to discuss the strategy for countering extremism in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested on December 13 that the Security Council of the Russian Federation discuss the strategy of countering extremism.
"We have two topics today at an operational meeting of the Security Council, very, very serious topics. The first one concerns the further development of defense industries, and the second one is the strategy of countering extremism in the Russian Federation," the Russian leader said.
He added that Industry Minister Anton Alikhanov will make a report on the development of the defense industry, while the topic of countering extremism will be covered by Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev.
Earlier, on October 8, the head of state called the fight against terrorism, extremism, organized crime, drug trafficking and corruption a key area of joint work of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). According to the Russian leader, this is facilitated by the CIS operational interaction of law enforcement agencies and competent bodies.
In September, the head of the CIS Anti-Terrorist Center (ATC) Evgeny Sysoyev said that in 2023, almost 200 terrorist attacks were attempted in the CIS countries, the vast majority of which were foiled. At the same time, more than 2.1 thousand criminals were brought to criminal responsibility for terrorist offenses.
