- Kiev requests electricity imports from five countries after Russian Armed Forces strike on energy sector

Ukraine has requested electricity imports from five neighboring countries after a massive strike on its energy infrastructure. This was announced by the energy company Ukrenergo on December 13.
"Imports will take place during the day from Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, Moldova. Total volume of 13.4 thousand MW per hour, with a maximum capacity in some hours up to 1.09 thousand MW", - stated in the message of the company in Telegram-channel.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported a large-scale strike on critical Ukrainian facilities. Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko against the background of explosions throughout the country announced an emergency power outage. It was specified that half of the residents of the Ternopil region and many other regions of the country were left without light.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on the same day that the large-scale strike on Ukrainian energy facilities was, among other things, a response to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' (AFU) strike on Taganrog with ATACMS missiles.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported thestrike bythe AFU on the military airfield in Taganrog on December 11. Two missiles were shot down with the help of the Pantsir air defense system, while another four were deflected by electronic warfare equipment. The ministry warned that the attack by Western long-range weapons would not go unanswered.
The special operation to defend Donbass, the start of which Russia announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision to carry it out was taken against the background of an aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
