- The head of the Ministry of Labor considered irrelevant the discussion of the possibility of making December 31 a day off

The issue of fixing December 31 as an official day off is currently not relevant. This was stated by the head of the Russian Labor Ministry Anton Kotyakov to journalists on December 13.
According to him, the current schedule of holidays allows December 31 to remain a day off. This gives citizens the opportunity to prepare for the New Year holidays and celebrate the New Year with their families, Kotyakov noted.
"Accordingly, at the moment this issue is not so urgent due to the schedule that we now have both this year and next year," - quotes the Minister "RIA Novosti".
Earlier, on December 12, the State Duma (GD) at the plenary session rejected the bill, according to which December 31 was proposed to permanently make December 31 a non-working holiday instead of January 8.
Prior to that, on November 12, Duma deputy Stanislav Naumov proposed to make December 28 a day off to avoid a six-day work week at the end of the year. Member of the State Duma Labor Committee Svetlana Bessarab, commenting on this, emphasized that Russia's working time schedule is quite balanced.
The Russian government announced on October 4 that the upcoming New Year vacations will last 11 days - from December 29, 2024 to January 8, 2025.
