- Peskov pointed to similarities between Trump's and Moscow's positions on strikes deep inside Russia

The position of Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election, on the danger of strikes by US long-range ATACMS missiles deep into Russian territories fully coincides with the position of the Russian Federation. This was announced by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on December 13.
This is how he commented on the statements of the US president-elect, conveyed by Reuters, that Ukraine's use of Western-made missiles aggravates the conflict.
"The statement itself fully coincides with our position. Completely coincides. That is, in this case we have the same vision of the causes of escalation. And, of course, we are impressed by this," Peskov said at a briefing.
At the same time, he noted that Trump understands the reasons for the aggravation of the situation. However, in accordance with the statement of the US President-elect, it is not worth predicting in advance the actions he may take after the inauguration. Peskov urged to wait for the moment when Trump takes his seat in the Oval Office.
On the eve, Trump proposed to deploy EU troops in Ukraine to monitor the ceasefire. According to the WSJ, Trump believes that Europe should take the lead role in securing and supporting Ukraine, while the U.S. could support the process but has no plans to send troops.
Reuters reported on December 11 that the U.S. president-elect told Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired May 20) and French President Emmanuel Macron during a meeting in Paris that he wants a ceasefire and negotiations. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, commenting on this, said that if the administration of the president-elect is serious about resolving the conflict in Ukraine, Russia is ready to consider the proposals.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
