During flu and cold epidemics, warm tea becomes one of the most common ways to treat and prevent acute respiratory infections. Viktoria Shurupova, a pediatrician and member of the MAY center of industry expertise, told Izvestia on December 14 about the drink's healing properties.

According to the specialist, herbal varieties of tea not only help maintain water balance, but also have a whole range of useful properties that can alleviate symptoms of illness. One of the most popular remedies for fighting colds is chamomile tea.

Shurupova reminded that this drink is famous for its anti-inflammatory and relaxing properties, helps to reduce inflammation, reduces pain and has antiseptic characteristics. Chamomile also promotes better sleep quality, which plays an important role in body recovery.

Peppermint tea also promotes relaxation and makes breathing easier, while ginger tea supports the immune system with its known anti-inflammatory and expectorant properties, the pediatrician specified. Rosehip is rich in vitamin C and other valuable microelements, which helps strengthen the immune system and speeds up the healing process. Linden tea, thanks to its diaphoretic action, helps to reduce fever and alleviates the manifestations of colds.

"Some teas may be contraindicated for certain people. For example, black tea due to its high caffeine content is undesirable for those who suffer from hypertension or insomnia. Green tea in large quantities can irritate the stomach if you have gastritis or ulcers. Herbal teas, such as chamomile or mint, can cause an allergic reaction in people sensitive to these plants," the doctor said.

The specialist also suggested drinking tea while using supplements that can significantly ease symptoms and speed up recovery. For example, turmeric can be an addition to the drink for colds due to its anti-inflammatory qualities. Melissa promotes relaxation, reduces stress and improves sleep, while raspberry, with its diaphoretic effect, helps reduce fever and speeds up the healing process.

"Herbal tea for colds is a great way to support the body and relieve unpleasant symptoms. But it is only part of a comprehensive approach to recovery. Use it wisely, as a pleasant and useful ritual, but do not forget about the basic methods of treatment," summarized Shurupova.

Earlier, on October 27, the titester of the company "MAY" Andrey Skidan told "Izvestia" what tea consists of and how it affects the body. According to him, caffeine is the most famous stimulant in the drink, which helps improve concentration and vigor. Unlike coffee, caffeine in tea acts more gently due to its interaction with theanine.
