- European Commissioner recognizes development of Russian defense industry despite sanctions

The new European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius admitted on Friday, December 13, that Russia is expanding its defense industry despite sanctions.
"Russia today produces in three months more weapons than the entire European arms industry can produce, and in six months more weapons than the entire Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces. - Ed.) has," he said in an interview with Redaktions Netzwerk Deutschland.
According to the European Commissioner, the Russian Federation, among other things, produces and stores more tanks than it deploys at the front.
Earlier, on November 27, the president of the National Research Center (NRC) "Kurchatov Institute" Mikhail Kovalchuk said in a conversation with Izvestia that the successful creation of the Russian ballistic missile Oreshnik paved the way for subsequent promising developments. According to him, the next developments in the future could be operated at even higher temperatures.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on November 21 that one of Russia's newest medium-range missile systems, the Oreshnik ballistic missile, had been tested under combat conditions in Ukraine in response to the escalation by Western countries.
The next day, the head of state specified that Russia would continue testing the Oreshnik, and that the decision on the serial production of these missiles had already been made. In addition, several other weapons of this kind are currently under development.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov later explained that the creation of Oreshnik missiles was conducted without publicity. It is known that the developers will be presented to state awards.
