Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Russian swimmers on their brilliant performance in the mixed combined relay at the World Championships in Budapest.
"I am glad to congratulate you on your brilliant performance and winning gold medals at the World Short Course Swimming Championships in Budapest. In a tense struggle with serious rivals, you demonstrated team unity, the highest skill and impeccable technique," reads the telegram of the head of state, which was published on December 13 on the Kremlin website.
Separately, Putin noted the triumph of Miron Lifintsev, who at these competitions won another victory and was twice crowned champion.
"You have proved in practice that the domestic swimming school is one of the strongest in the world. I wish you new achievements and all the best," the president concluded.
Earlier, on December 11, Lifintsev, Kirill Prigoda, Arina Surkova and Daria Trofimova won gold in the 4x50m combined relay at the World Short Course Swimming Championships. The Canadian team took second place and the United States took third.
Lifintsev also took the gold medal for the best result in the 100-meter backstroke. In addition, Prigoda updated the Russian record in the 100m breaststroke.
