In several regions of Russia there is a shortage of sodium chloride for infusions (saline solution) in 200-500 ml containers: instead of them, pharmacies only have 5-10 ml ampoules for injections, which are not suitable for setting up drips, Izvestiya correspondents found out on December 13.

In St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Perm and Chelyabinsk, pharmacies have been facing a shortage of saline solution for two weeks.

"There is a shortage with [saline solution] now, everyone is buying it up. Not a single pharmacy has it," says a pharmacist from Nizhny Novgorod.

At the same time, in Chelyabinsk, 400 ml containers remain on sale, which are available in pharmacies that have managed to stock up.

In addition, some pharmacies have saline solution in ampoules. The Izvestia interlocutor specified that now sodium chloride in large volumes is likely to be available only in hospital. According to his data, there is no saline solution for infusions at wholesale warehouses at the moment.

"Currently, medical institutions of St. Petersburg are fully provided with saline solution: more than 235 thousand packages of sodium chloride solution are available. Procurement procedures are being conducted to ensure the need for the drug for 2025", - commented "Izvestia" in the St. Petersburg Health Committee.

On December 11, the Ministry of Health spoke to TASS about the work on preventing a shortage of sodium chloride. The department notifies that such a request appeared due to the request of manufacturers to change and re-register prices. The Ministry of Health also noted that all signals from the regions on the supply of saline solution were worked out with the companies.
