Kiev renamed Blok, Lermontov, Krylov and Pushkin streets

The deputies of the Kiev city council have adopted another decision concerning the change of names of city facilities that contain the names of Russian figures of science and culture. This was reported on December 12 on the official website of the Kiev city state administration (KSCA).
Thus, the streets named in honor of Russian poets Alexander Blok, Mikhail Lermontov, Alexander Pushkin and fable writer Ivan Krylov were renamed. Now they are named after Ukrainian cultural figures.
In addition, the name of the street named after Russian geographer Nikolai Przhevalsky has been changed.
Earlier, on September 19, Kiev renamed streets named after Russian writers Ivan Turgenev and Sergey Yesenin.
The policy of so-called decolonization was a continuation of the "decommunization" in Ukraine, which began to be carried out in 2015 within the framework of the law "On Condemnation of Communist and Nazi Regimes".
It prescribes demolishing monuments, dismantling memorial plaques, and renaming all topographical objects whose names are associated with the USSR or Russia. This policy became especially acute after the start of the Russian Federation's special operation to defend Donbass in February 2022.
