In Odessa region decided to change the coat of arms because of "Lebedev's anchor"

The head of the Odessa regional military administration, Oleh Kiper, has said that the region will change its coat of arms because of its allegedly Russian origin. According to him, one of the elements - an anchor - was allegedly invented by Russian designer Artemiy Lebedev. This was reported on December 12 by the Ukrainian edition "Strana.ua" in Telegram.
"Lebedev's anchor will not be. This was the main idea - that there was no Lebedev's anchor there," - the media outlet quotes Kiper's words during the discussion of the issue.
At the same time, as noted in the publication of the publication, the symbolism of the Odessa region was approved in 2002 and its authors were Ukrainian artists, not Lebedev, who created only the symbol of Odessa in 2012. It is specified that in this regard it is not clear why to make changes to the regional coat of arms.
In addition, the publication pointed out that the only common elements in the logos of Odessa and Odessa region was the anchor.
Before that, on December 5, Irish journalist Chay Bose suggested that the reason for the demolition of monuments associated with the USSR or Russia is the fear of Ukrainians over the joint cultural heritage with the Russian state.
Earlier, on December 4, a bust of twice Hero of the USSR, partisan commander Sidor Kovpak, was dismantled in Kiev's Park of Glory. Sidor Kovpak was one of the leaders of the partisan movement in Ukraine and the RSFSR during the Great Patriotic War.
The policy of so-called decolonization was a continuation of "decommunization" in Ukraine, which began in 2015 as part of the law "On Condemnation of Communist and Nazi Regimes".
It prescribes demolishing monuments, dismantling memorial plaques, and renaming all topographical objects whose names are associated with the USSR or Russia. This policy became especially acute after the start of the Russian Federation's special operation to defend Donbass in February 2022.
