The possible deployment of NATO troops on the territory of Ukraine will be a disaster. State Duma deputy Oleksiy Chepa said this on Thursday, December 12.

According to him, the appearance of foreign military already after the end of the conflict, as peacekeepers, is also subject to careful analysis and discussion.

"Now there is some contradictory information about the possibility of NATO troops deployment in Ukraine. But the main thing is that it will lead to even more catastrophic consequences," the parliamentarian emphasized in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.

Chepa added that he considers the probability of such a scenario to be low. At the same time, he added that Russia should make every effort to prevent it, because the consequences could be too serious.

"Also a lot depends on the terms of the peace treaty. The situation will have to be looked at already in a complex," he concluded.

Earlier in the day, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanyshyna said that Ukraine is ready to discuss the deployment of foreign troops on the country's territory, RT reported.

In his turn, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Polish troops would not enter the territory of Ukraine even after the cease-fire, the kp.ru website reported.

On December 10, the head of Poland's National Security Bureau, Jacek Severa, said it was necessary to rule out the participation of Polish servicemen in the conflict in Ukraine, 360.ru reported. Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz on the same day called statements about the potential introduction of NATO troops to Ukraine speculation.

Before that, on December 1, a demonstration was held in Paris against sending Western troops to Ukraine, as well as in support of halting arms deliveries to Kiev. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on December 4 that Germany would not send its troops to the Ukrainian conflict zone.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on 24 February 2022 after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
