Russians told of the fraud their children have faced


In Russia, 42% of surveyed citizens warned their child about the increased activity of intruders in December. More than half of the users of this group specified that their child had already encountered malicious activity on the eve of the holidays. This is stated in the results of a study of financial marketplace "Vyberu.ru", which were read by "Izvestia" on December 13.
The most frequent method of fraud was account hacking in messengers and sending malicious links (52% of situations). In the second place by frequency (25%) - cases of luring children from parental bank card data under fake accounts of famous bloggers. 15% of parents noted that the attackers acted through applications that their child plays and offered to buy "winter bonuses" at a discount. Another 8% of respondents indicated that the scammers called their children to find out the passwords to their accounts and moved on to intimidation if they failed to gain access.
As experts found out, in order to protect the younger members of the family, in addition to having a conversation, 18% of Russians made sure that the child has two-factor authentication in social networks and messengers. One in ten survey participants showed children how scammers can lure them with December promotions and coveted gifts, such as game consoles at low prices. Meanwhile, 8% use parental control apps to protect children them from dangerous websites, and 22% of respondents have put a special blocker on their children to block scam and spam calls from their cell phone carrier.
"December is one of the peak months for scammer activity and a period when young Internet users and their parents need to be especially vigilant about family financial security. Conducting audience research, we year after year we note that Russians are not indifferent to the problem of fraud," said Yaroslav Bajurak, executive director of the financial marketplace "Vyberu.ru".
He recommended to always remember the basic rules of financial security: make sure that personal accounts and banking applications have two-factor authentication, use strong passwords and be extremely attentive to calls and messages from unknown numbers.
Earlier, on November 17, Evgeny Pankov, project manager of the .RU/.RF domain coordination center, told Izvestia that there is a steady increase in phishing attacks conducted via messengers, especially Telegram and WhatsApp (owned by Meta, whose activities are banned in Russia). According to him, 2,374 domains imitating Telegram were blocked in Runet in the first 10 months of this year, which is 2.2 times higher than the same period last year. For the second messenger, the number of blocked domains increased more than five times - from 205 to 1,036.
