The probable cause of the political crisis in South Korea could be the discontent of the USA with the country's president, Yun Seok-yeol, because of his possible refusal to sell weapons to Ukraine. The first deputy chairman of the Defense Committee, Aleksey Zhuravlev, shared this opinion with Izvestiya on 12 December.

Thus, he noted, it is unlikely that South Korea, regardless of who is in power, would be able to announce something without the approval of its US partners. However, the politician emphasized, the current president's problems began just after the country refused to supply Ukraine with lethal weapons

"Mol, trucks and body armor can be supplied, but not machine guns anymore. In general, of course, [South Korea] acted within the framework of the track set by the United States, condemned Russia, transferred money to the AFU as it should, but there was a snag with weapons. It was favorable for the United States to replace the uncooperative Yun Seok-yol," the lawmaker said.

At the same time, he added, the South Korean leader for some reason accused the DPRK and, accordingly, the Russian side allegedly behind Pyongyang of coup attempts.

"Wagging in this way, he apparently hopes to regain the trust of Western partners, although it is known that they do not forgive mistakes," the interlocutor of the publication summarized.

Yun Seok-yol declared martial law in the country on December 3. The reason for such a step he called the threat of paralysis of power, arising from attempts to conduct impeachment proceedings. Commander of the emergency regime, Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces Park Ahn-soo noted that until martial law is lifted in the republic, the activities of the parliament, political parties and associations are prohibited. Military equipment was brought to the streets of Seoul.

The opposition party of the republic, in turn, demanded the resignation of the head of state and said it intended to charge Yoon Seok-yeol with treason. At the same time, all heads and senior secretaries of the presidential administration of South Korea resigned. In addition, the labor unions of the republic announced a general strike.

Then, on December 11, the South Korean police searched the administration of President Yun Seok-yol, as well as police departments. The searches are being conducted by a special investigation team to investigate martial law-related activities. The next day, Yun Seok-yol said he had no intention of leaving office and would resist attempts to impeach him.
