The State Duma (GD) at a plenary session on Thursday, December 12, rejected the bill, according to which December 31 was proposed to permanently make December 31 a non-working holiday.

It was assumed that in case of approval of the project, December 31 would be included in the list of non-working holidays instead of January 8. This bill in 2020 introduced a group of deputies from the LDPR party, changes were proposed to the Labor Code.

The authors noted that the inclusion of the last day of December in the list of non-working holidays "will allow employees to use non-working holidays more rationally." However, the State Duma did not pass the initiative in the first reading.

Earlier, on November 12, Duma deputy Stanislav Naumov proposed to make December 28 a day off to avoid a six-day work week at the end of the year. Member of the State Duma Labor Committee Svetlana Bessarab, commenting on this, emphasized that Russia's working time schedule is quite balanced.

The Russian government announced on October 4 that the upcoming New Year vacations will last 11 days - from December 29, 2024 to January 8, 2025.
