An endocrinologist has listed the most harmful variants of popular breakfasts


Breakfast is the most important meal that triggers metabolic processes in the body. Therefore, it is necessary that it should be of high quality. However, many popular breakfasts are harmful. Ludmila Ilyina, endocrinologist and nutritionist at SM-Clinica, told Izvestia on December 13.
First, according to her, it is worth excluding such breakfast options as granola, cereal and instant porridge. This is explained by the fact that they have virtually no fiber and complex carbohydrates. Such products are characterized by low calories, rapid digestion and inability to give a feeling of satiety for a long time.
"Unhealthy breakfast options also include pastries, sweets, white bread, toast, chocolate and energy bars. These foods are high in wheat flour, sugar and trans fats, but lack nutritional value. Their consumption causes a sharp rise and fall in blood sugar levels, provokes hunger and contributes to obesity," the doctor said.
The specialist also advised not to consume freshly squeezed juices and fruit smoothies on an empty stomach. They contain a large amount of fructose, which, in excess, is converted into fat. And the high acidity of these drinks can cause irritation of the gastric mucosa and cause gastritis, if you drink them on an empty stomach.
Among other foods that should not be eaten for breakfast, the doctor named fast food, sandwiches with sausage, scrambled eggs with bacon, smoked meats, chips and fatty meat. These foods are hard to digest, provoke a feeling of heaviness, drowsiness and apathy.
"Strong coffee, if you drink it on an empty stomach, can also cause harm, negatively affecting the cardiovascular system and causing a diuretic effect," the expert added.
Earlier, November 16, gastroenterologist, expert physician of the laboratory "Hemotest" Ekaterina Kashukh told "Izvestia" about the importance of an individual approach in the choice of breakfast. According to her, a morning meal can prevent obesity and diabetes. At the same time, she emphasized that the choice of breakfast depends a lot on each individual, his or her well-being and health, as well as dietary habits.
