Grossi said there were no fragments of the drone that struck the IAEA vehicle

After a drone strike on an official vehicle of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the road to the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant (ZNPP), there were no fragments left that could help in the investigation of the incident. Rafael Grossi, director general of the agency, said on December 12.
"The drone used to attack the vehicle <...> was arranged in such a way that it exploded after contact, leaving no distinctive fragments that could help us in the investigation of the incident," Grossi said in the video, which was published on the IAEA's social network X (former Twitter) page.
Furthermore, the IAEA director general added that the attack was targeted and he would not "point fingers" at those responsible for the incident. According to him, the agency cannot yet make accusations until it receives hard evidence.
Earlier, on December 10, it was reported that another rotation of IAEA mission observers was held at ZNPP, which was provided by Russian servicemen. It was noted that before starting the movement, Russian sappers checked the area for unexploded foreign and Ukrainian munitions. After the reconnaissance, the RF Armed Forces ensured the observers' safe passage to the station.
Later that day, Grossi issued a statement that the agency's official vehicle on the road to the ZNPP was attacked by a drone. At the time, he said that there were no casualties as a result of the strike. The IAEA Director General also condemned the incident and called for respect.
Prior to that, on December 5, Grossi said that the situation around the ZNPP, as long as there is fighting nearby the facility, continues to be tense and unstable. Grossi added that the situation with the power supply to ZNPP is also a matter of deep concern for him. He intends to discuss this issue with the Russian and Ukrainian sides in the near future.
Zaporizhzhya region, where the nuclear power plant is located, became part of the Russian Federation following a referendum in September 2022. Since then, Zaporizhzhya NPP has been under constant IAEA control.
