- The State Duma has introduced a draft law on the introduction of content labeling in video games

A bill has been submitted to the State Duma for consideration, according to which it is proposed to introduce labeling of video games according to their content. One of its initiators, Duma deputy Anton Gorelkin (United Russia), told about it on December 12.
The deputy noted that the draft law does not contain impossible requirements or a ban on the use of foreign game services.
"We want game distributors to give their developers the opportunity to warn users about the features of game content (scenes of cruelty, violence, alcohol and drug use and so on). The labeling experiment that some participants of the Russian video game market are now conducting is fully in line with this paradigm," Gorelkin specified in his Telegram channel.
He added that all popular gaming services have already introduced linking a user's account to his phone number for security purposes. However, the law would allow to do more - to prescribe basic definitions for future regulations that will help to develop the gaming industry in Russia and lay the foundation for systemic support of the domestic gaming industry.
Earlier, on September 17, it was reported that in 2025 in Russia will launch a project on voluntary labeling of video games. It is designed to encourage programmers to create useful content for citizens, to support domestic manufacturers and start-up studios. The initiative is carried out by the Video Game Industry Development Organization (VDI), to get the mark will need to apply to this company. It is planned that at the start the mark will be assigned in three categories: "Made in Russia", "Contains educational materials" and "Cybersport discipline".
