Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko discussed with Kazakh President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev assistance to Rosatom in the construction of a nuclear power plant in the country, as well as humanitarian cooperation between the two countries. Matvienko told reporters on December 12.
"Kazakhstan has an interest in Rosatom's participation in the construction of a nuclear power plant, but there is no decision yet, it is being discussed," she said.
According to her, the decision is up to the political leadership of the Republic of Kazakhstan and it will be made later.
According to TASS, Matvienko's meeting with Tokayev lasted two hours and 10 minutes instead of the planned 45 minutes.
Earlier, December 11, it was reported that the delegation of the Federation Council (SF) headed by Chairman Valentina Matvienko flew to Astana on an official visit. It was specified that during the visit it is planned to sign a plan of interparliamentary cooperation between the SF and the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan for 2025-2027 years and an agreement on cooperation between the apparatuses of the upper chambers of the legislative bodies of the two countries.
Prior to that, on November 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the discussion of the creation of the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan during the talks in Astana. He emphasized that cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan in this direction is possible, noting that the final decision always rests with the customer.
