Servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are being instructed to choose suicide over captivity before being sent to Kursk Region. This was stated by captured AFU serviceman Ivan Sova on December 12 in a video published by the Russian Defense Ministry.

According to him, before being sent to the front, military personnel are told that even if they surrender, they will allegedly be killed anyway.

According to Sova, he and his fellow servicemen learned that they were in the Kursk region after the driver of the car that brought them to the position said: "Welcome to Russia." Initially, according to the prisoner, the Russian military hit the positions where the AFU were located with FPV drones and then offered to surrender.

He added that after he was wounded, his fellow soldiers abandoned him. According to Sova, Russian servicemen helped him.

"They just consider us in Ukraine as meat. <...> If they had not taken me prisoner, <...>and did not help me, I would no longer exist," he concluded.

Earlier, on December 9, Igor Snizhko, an AFU prisoner of war from Dnipropetrovsk region, who surrendered to Russian troops in Kursk region, said that he had saved his life thanks to the actions of members of the "North" group of forces.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The operation to destroy the militants continues.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
