Biden commuted sentences for 1,500 citizens and pardoned 39 prisoners

U.S. President Joe Biden commuted sentences for 1.5 thousand citizens and pardoned 39 prisoners, which is the largest number for the day among heads of state. This is evidenced on December 12 by the publication on the website of the White House.
"The announcement will commute the sentences of nearly 1.5 thousand people under house arrest and pardon 39 people convicted of non-violent offenses," the publication says.
The U.S. president granted pardons to citizens who were positively impacted by incarceration. He released those people who expressed a desire to make society safer.
It is specified that in total the adopted statement is the largest one-day pardon in modern history. The statement noted that Biden has issued more pardons than his predecessors at this point in his presidential term.
Earlier, on Dec. 2, Biden made the decision to pardon his son Hunter. Reacting to his father's decision, he said he intends to devote his life to helping people with addictions.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, commenting on the president's decision, noted that the head of state will not seek the resignation of the attorney general, despite his opinion about the injustice in Hunter Biden's case. Jean-Pierre also pointed out that she did not see any contradictions in the words of the head of state.
Americanist Malek Dudakov, talking to "Izvestia", admitted that Biden may pardon his other relatives, for example, his brother James. He also noted that this decision of the American leader sets a precedent: none of the U.S. presidents had initiated pardons for their children before.
In September, Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to nine counts of criminal charges in the case of non-payment of taxes, and in June - on three counts in the case of weapons possession. At the same time, he himself pleaded guilty in the case of tax crimes.
