A woman died of rabies after being bitten by a fox in Volgograd region


A resident of Mikhailovka, Volgograd region, died after being bitten by a fox sick with rabies. This was reported in the regional health committee on December 12.
The agency noted that the case of rabies in a 44-year-old woman was established in November 2024.
"The victim did not apply for emergency prophylaxis, the appeal was recorded with the onset of symptoms of hydrophobia," - quoted the statement of the health committee "RIA Novosti".
In the health Committee of the Volgograd region noted that this is the first fatal case for the year.
According to the regional department of Rospotrebnadzor, since the beginning of the year, 10.5 thousand people have applied to medical institutions after animal bites, which is 28% higher than the average annual level of applications.
In October, cases of animal rabies were detected in 18 regions of Russia. In September, infected animals were detected in 21 regions.
