NATO countries have intensified military activities in the Arctic region. This was reported by Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy (Navy) Alexander Moiseyev on December 12.

"Considering the Arctic as a potential conflict region, the states and NATO countries have intensified military activities in the region," he said at the plenary session of the XIV International Forum "Arctic: Present and Future." His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

According to Moiseyev, NATO countries are practicing ways of using troops in the difficult climatic conditions of the Arctic Circle, expanding the region of operational use of naval forces in the Arctic Ocean. In addition, he said that the intensity of aerial reconnaissance and the activities of reconnaissance ships and military vessels is increasing.

The Navy Commander-in-Chief added that the military and political situation in the Arctic region is characterized by an increase in the conflict potential. According to him, the Pentagon's Arctic strategy adopted this year "has a blatantly anti-Russian orientation, where Russia and China are considered the main threats to stability and security in the Arctic."

Earlier, on December 2, Russian Ambassador to Norway Nikolai Korchunov said that NATO's increased military activity in the Arctic is fraught with risks of dangerous incidents and escalation. According to him, the risks of dangerous incidents and escalation are fraught with the lack of effective confidence-building measures and military communication channels.

Before that, on November 30, a center for amphibious operations appeared in the northern part of Norway. It was specified that this was done as part of "another step by NATO to strengthen its operations on the border with Russia in the Arctic".
